The Issue

Newly released whistleblower footage is raising serious concerns about the treatment of animals at the New Iberia Research Center, one of the largest primate research facilities in the United States.

According to materials shared publicly, monkeys at the facility appear to be confined in cramped, unsanitary conditions, with reports of feces accumulation, inadequate living environments, and signs of severe stress. While these claims require full investigation, they are deeply troubling and cannot be ignored.

This is not the first time concerns have been raised.

Public records cited in reports show that the facility has previously been cited for violations of the Animal Welfare Act, including incidents involving preventable animal deaths, inadequate care, and unsafe conditions. These repeated issues point to a pattern that demands closer scrutiny.

At the same time, research at facilities like this is connected to federal funding streams, meaning taxpayer dollars may be supporting operations where serious concerns about animal welfare have been raised.

This is about accountability.

If laws designed to protect animals are not being followed, they must be enforced. If public funds are being used, there must be transparency and oversight. And if the allegations reflected in this footage are accurate, immediate action is necessary to prevent further harm.

We call on the United States Department of Agriculture to launch a full and transparent investigation into the conditions at the New Iberia Research Center. We also call on the National Institutes of Health to review any current or future funding tied to this facility until all concerns are thoroughly addressed.

Animal welfare laws exist for a reason. They must be upheld.

The public deserves answers. The animals deserve protection.

Sign this petition to demand accountability, transparency, and immediate investigation into the New Iberia Research Center.
