We recently received this letter sent by Representatives LaNatra and Badger to Secretary Augustus at the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities.

In addition, Plymouth Independent published a story today in which Congressman Keating indicated he has not received a response from the EPA.

Please continue to share this petition with friends and family throughout Massachusetts.

Secretary Ed Augustus
Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities
100 Cambridge Street, Suite 300
Boston, MA 02114

Dear Secretary Augustus,

We write to share serious environmental and public health concerns raised by residents of our districts regarding the proposed Chapter 40B Pulte Homes development in North Plymouth. The project’s proximity to the Plymouth Harbor/Cannon Engineering Corp. Superfund Site has generated significant community concern, particularly related to potential contamination risks and the long-term implications of development adjacent to a site with known environmental restrictions.

Our offices have remained in ongoing communication with residents, municipal officials, and state and federal partners as this matter has progressed. We understand that MassDEP continues to oversee cleanup and compliance activities pursuant to Chapter 21E, and that Congressman Keating’s office is coordinating with the Environmental Protection Agency to review whether all applicable federal requirements tied to the Superfund site are being properly addressed.

Given the seriousness of these concerns, we respectfully urge your office to take all appropriate steps to pause advancement of this project while a thorough review is conducted. We ask that the Executive Office work closely with MassDEP and the EPA to ensure that any permitting or approval decisions fully evaluate potential environmental and public health risks associated with development adjacent to the Superfund site.

Protecting residents while responsibly addressing housing needs must remain our shared priority. We appreciate your attention to this matter and stand ready to work collaboratively to ensure that environmental safety and responsible development move forward together.

Please do not hesitate to contact either of our offices should additional information be helpful.

Sincerely,

Kathy LaNatra
