INVESTIGATE: Hiring of Niagara Region CAO D'Angelo

The Issue

Serious allegations regarding the integrity of the process by which Niagara Region hired its current CAO have recently come to light.

According to an investigation by veteran reporter Grant LaFleche, of the St Catharines Standard, the confidential process was compromised by an internal leak.

It is alleged someone, at Chair Caslin's office, colluded to give Mr D'Angelo confidential information on “the names of other candidates and their biographies”.

It is further alleged there were “internal efforts at the Region to clear the path for D'Angelo” in a “predetermined decision”.

Due to the severity of the above allegations, we feel an independent investigation is warranted; an internal audit is neither appropriate nor sufficient.

The proper avenue for an investigation into accusations of corruption is through existing provincial framework such as the Ombudsman’s office or the OPP.

Should anyone be found to have violated public trust, or peddled influence, they should face charges per the Canadian Criminal Code.

IF YOU BELIEVE CAO Carmen D'Angelo should resign because of his failure to do the job properly, including the #PressFreedom fiasco of December 2017:  https://www.change.org/p/resign-niagara-region-cao-carmen-d-angelo
