Investigate fraudulent travel agency claims on Facebook
The Issue
Many people from Haiti, like myself, dream of opportunities abroad—a chance to build a better life for ourselves and our families. Unfortunately, this dream can sometimes lead us into the traps of deceitful scammers, and it's this concern that leads me to write about a pressing issue on Facebook.
There exists a Facebook page, under the guise of "Anton Dezirab Anton Dezirab," which has about 20k followers and

purports to provide assistance for Haitians to travel to countries such as Canada, Brazil, Nicaragua, and Mexico. This page presents itself as legitimate, offering a phone number, +1 (716) 755-4052, for WhatsApp communication. Upon contacting this number, hopefuls are informed of a $2,500 fee alongside a list of required documents, with instructions to transfer money to a bank account in Haiti. Alarm bells ring when further information about the individual or agency behind the scene is either obscured or unavailable.
Adding to this troubling scenario, the legitimate Tonton Dezirad has publicly denied any association with this travel page or agency. Videos made by Tonton Dezirad himself clarify he has no involvement in any travel service, marking this Facebook page as a scam, duping innocent people who are simply seeking better opportunities.
This fraudulent operation is more than just a deception, it preys on the most vulnerable, exploiting their desire for change. It's essential that social media platforms, primarily Facebook, proactively investigate and dismantle such scams to protect individuals from potential loss and heartache.
I urge the Haitian authorities and relevant international bodies to work diligently in identifying and shutting down these fraudulent actors. Moreover, Facebook must be held accountable to improve their monitoring systems, ensuring that they swiftly remove such pages that endanger the safety and resources of citizens.
Sign this petition to demand immediate investigation and action against the scammers masquerading as travel service providers to unsuspecting Haitians. Help protect our community from being misled and financially devastated by supporting this crucial initiative. Your voice can make a difference in this fight against online fraud.
