Investigate Fraternity Culture and Protect Student Safety at Cornell University
The Issue
I posted one simple thought: I wonder what their families think. That is where my mind went watching what was happening around Cornell University. Not because this is funny or harmless, but because too many people brush off reckless behavior on college campuses like it is just part of the experience. It is not. Families send their kids to school expecting them to learn, grow, and come home safe.
What happens in and around fraternity spaces does not stay isolated to one moment or one group. It shapes the culture students live in every day. When dangerous, humiliating, or irresponsible behavior gets normalized, everybody pays for it, including students who never chose to be part of it. A university cannot keep celebrating campus life while ignoring the harm that can grow inside that culture.
Cornell University needs to take a hard look at fraternity culture and student safety, and it needs to do it seriously. That means investigating reported behavior, enforcing clear rules, increasing oversight where students are at risk, and being honest with students and families about what is being done to prevent harm. Accountability cannot only happen after something gets out of control. The school has a responsibility to act before more students are put in unsafe situations.
If you believe college culture should never come before student safety, please sign this petition. If you believe families deserve to know that a university is taking these concerns seriously, please add your name. We cannot keep acting like this is normal.
