Investigate Dog Murders & Increase Importance of Animal Cruelty Reports in Rockaway Beach
The Issue
🚨 Justice for the Dogs Abandoned and Killed in Rockaway Beach 🚨
I’m a lifelong dog lover who recently witnessed a horrific and deeply unsettling sight—two murdered dogs left on our local beach. This heartbreaking scene, along with the ongoing reports of abandoned and abused dogs in Rockaway Beach, confirms our community's urgent need for serious action against animal cruelty.
📍 What Happened?
On Sunday, February 2, two deceased dogs—one appearing pregnant—were found dumped at the Beach 84th Street entrance, directly across from Hammel Houses.
According to Zion’s Mission Animal Rescue, which responded to the scene:
"Sasha’s Mission and us were called this morning and we met two incredibly loving officers from the 100th Precinct. Kim and I carefully bagged each dog and carried them one at a time to the officer’s truck. The dogs were found with newspapers stuck to them with bodily fluid, and we observed a huge sanitizer right near them as well. The tab from the sanitizer was under the mama dog."
The dogs were then transported to the ASPCA in Manhattan for a necropsy and forensic autopsy. Sloan of Zion's Mission provided an email for the cruelty unit at ADRIAN.ASHBY@nypd.org if you have any information about the incident.
🚨 This is NOT an isolated incident. 🚨
Rockaway Beach has seen a disturbing rise in animal cruelty cases, with repeated reports of abandoned dogs and illegal dog fighting. Despite this, many cases have been ignored or dismissed.
📊 Why This Matters
Animal cruelty is linked to violent crime—a study by the Animal Legal Defense Fund found that 76% of known animal abusers also harm people. We cannot let this community become a dumping ground for abuse and neglect.
Our plea is for Rockaway Beach authorities to prioritize these issues: investigate these dog murders, ramp up monitoring efforts, take all reports of animal cruelty seriously, and introduce tougher penalties for culprits. We owe it to these innocent souls and to our community. We need your support to uphold justice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Sign the petition today, and help make Rockaway Beach safer for its people and their pets.
