The Issue

I am speaking up because too many people have been trying to break the code of silence around the troubled teen industry, and the same facility names keep coming up: Diamond Ranch Academy and Discovery Ranch South. When survivors, advocates, and organizations like Unsilenced keep raising alarms, we cannot keep acting like this is just online noise. These are real young people, real families, and real harm that deserves a real response.

This goes far beyond one post or one hashtag. The troubled teen industry has built a reputation for secrecy, isolation, and fear, and that is exactly why public oversight matters. When so many people are using tags like breaking code silence and calling attention to the same programs, it shows a pattern that demands investigation, not silence. Young people placed in residential treatment or behavior-modification programs are especially vulnerable, and they should never be hidden from accountability.

I am calling on the state agencies responsible for licensing, child welfare, and facility oversight to immediately investigate Diamond Ranch Academy and Discovery Ranch South, publicly report their findings, and take enforcement action if violations are found. That means reviewing complaints, interviewing current and former residents, examining restraint, isolation, medical, and communication practices, and making sure no program is allowed to operate without meaningful scrutiny. If a facility is safe, an investigation will show that. If it is not, young people need protection now.

If you believe children and teens deserve safety, transparency, and dignity, please sign this petition. Sign if you believe survivors should be heard. Sign if you are tired of seeing the troubled teen industry shielded by silence while families are left in the dark.
