The Issue

CA-14 voters — and anyone who cares about honest elections — deserve to know how this race was really decided before Congress moves on.

On August 18, 2026, California voters chose Aisha Wahab to fill the vacant CA-14 congressional seat, 53.09% to 46.91% over Melissa Hernandez. That result deserves respect.

But there's an open question underneath it that hasn't been answered.

A federal campaign-finance complaint — FEC Matter Under Review (MUR) 8508 — is currently pending against Dena Maldonado, a Republican candidate who ran in the June special primary that decided which two candidates advanced to the August runoff. The complaint, filed June 26, 2026 and acknowledged by the FEC on July 2, alleges that a "ghost candidate" scheme used a coordinated $60,786 mailer campaign, shared campaign assets, and undisclosed financial reporting to artificially boost Maldonado's candidacy and siphon Republican votes in the primary.

To be clear: some of this  has been proven, others  not yet. The FEC's acknowledgment letter confirms only that the complaint was filed and logged — not that any of it is true. The allegations are disputed and should be treated as exactly that: allegations, not established facts. (For full transparency: the complaint was filed by Wendy Huang, another Republican primary candidate who ran against Maldonado — a connection worth knowing as you read this.)

That's exactly why this matters. If the allegations are false, an investigation clears the record. If they're true, Congress needs to know before it seats anyone based on an election that may have been manipulated at the starting line.

We are not asking Congress to overturn an election based on accusation. We are asking Congress to use its constitutional authority — Article I, Section 5 gives each chamber the power to judge the "Elections, Returns and Qualifications" of its own members — to find out what actually happened before the oath is administered and the window for real scrutiny closes.

This isn't an ordinary district, either. CA-14 includes Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, one of two U.S. labs responsible for the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile; a Sandia National Laboratories site; and Union City's Resonac facility, the first U.S. center dedicated to advanced AI chip packaging. Whoever represents this seat will have a hand in policy touching nuclear security and the AI supply chain. Getting the process right isn't a partisan favor to anyone — it's basic due diligence for a seat with real stakes.

We're asking the House to:

Investigate the origin and financing of Dena Maldonado's candidacy;
Determine whether unlawful coordination occurred, as alleged in MUR 8508;
Assess whether any such conduct materially affected who advanced to the August runoff; and
Exercise appropriate caution before seating Aisha Wahab until these questions are answered — not because she's done anything wrong, but because voters deserve a process they can trust.
Sign this petition to ask Speaker Johnson and the House Committee on House Administration to investigate first — and seat later.

Every signature adds pressure for a transparent, bipartisan look at the facts.
