The Issue

Photos and videos obtained by PETA from a whistleblower show cows at B&D Dairy in Holstein, Iowa with rotting hooves, deep bleeding lesions, and hooves so severely overgrown they could barely walk. According to the whistleblower, these conditions went untreated for months. Cows with broken legs were reportedly left in pain until a manager shot them. Calves died from pneumonia after suffering for days with no adequate care.

This is not a one-time mistake. A significant percentage of the herd allegedly suffered from hoof ailments — a sign of ongoing, systemic neglect. Hoof disease in dairy cows is painful, preventable, and treatable. Allowing it to go untreated for months is a failure of basic animal care.

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship have the authority to investigate these conditions and hold this facility accountable. We're calling on them to use it — now.

Sign this petition to demand that federal and Iowa state agriculture officials launch an immediate investigation into B&D Dairy, determine whether animal cruelty laws were violated, release their findings to the public, and take the necessary action to stop this abuse.

These animals cannot speak for themselves. We can.
