Investigate Arka Montessori and Protect Texas Kids From Daycare Abuse
The Issue
A 4-year-old boy in Fort Worth was allegedly pushed into a fight by the adults who were paid to keep him safe. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) must fully investigate Arka Montessori Academy of Risinger, take action on its license if the claims are confirmed, and make it easier for every Texas parent to see which daycares have a record of harm.
According to a lawsuit filed by the boy's family, his mother arrived unannounced on April 27 and knew from his crying that something had gone wrong. She asked to see the classroom cameras. Surveillance video obtained by WFAA reportedly shows a woman, identified as a former staff member, egging on a fight involving her son. The lawsuit also claims a teacher urged her own child to keep going after the boy, then shook him and caused him to fall.
"This place looked like a child fight club," the family's attorney, Russell T. Button, told WFAA.
The family chose Arka partly because it had cameras running around the clock. Those cameras recorded what allegedly happened. They did not prevent it. Parents deserve protection before harm happens, not just footage afterward.
State leaders can close these gaps. HHSC should investigate this facility quickly and share what it finds. Texas should make confirmed abuse findings at licensed daycares simple for parents to search before they enroll a child. And any worker found to have harmed a child should not be able to quietly start over at another daycare, which means tougher background checks and a statewide do-not-hire list for childcare staff.
No working parent should need a surprise visit to learn whether their child is safe.
Sign now to demand a full investigation and real protections for every child in Texas daycare.
