The Issue

The New Brunswick Energy & Utility Board (NBEUB) is currently failing in its responsibilities to the people of New Brunswick. Many board members have demonstrated negligence and bias, leading to decisions that do not benefit New Brunswickers. It is time to take action and abolish this entity for the sake of fairness and transparency.

A major issue with the NBEUB is the blatant conflict of interest among its members. Some board members are still receiving paychecks from entities like NB Power, which they are supposed to regulate impartially. Furthermore, the current chairman has previously represented Irving Oil, raising additional concerns about impartiality in decision-making.

Since 2023, we have witnessed approximately a 24% +  increase in our NB Power services, a significant financial burden on families and individuals across New Brunswick. Instead of protecting consumers, the NBEUB has allowed this sharp increase, reflecting their inability to safeguard the economic well-being of the community.

The people of New Brunswick deserve a regulatory body that acts in their best interests, free from external influence and personal gain. The NBEUB, in its current state, cannot fulfill this role.

Therefore, we call on the Government of New Brunswick to immediately commission an independent, third-party public review of the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board, including its mandate, governance structure, appointment process, and conflict-of-interest safeguards.

The review should include public hearings, full disclosure of past and present industry ties, and clear recommendations on whether the current board structure serves the best interests of New Brunswick ratepayers.

Where the review finds systemic bias, regulatory capture, or failure to protect affordability, we call for the restructuring or replacement of the Board with a truly independent, ratepayer-focused regulatory body.

By supporting this petition, you are standing up for transparency, accountability, and fairness. Let us create a more equitable system for all residents of New Brunswick. I urge you to sign this petition and demand the necessary changes to improve the energy and utility regulatory framework in our province. Together, we can ensure a brighter and more balanced future for all.
