I write this petition driven by a horrifying instance that recently transpired in our local community. A man in Ogden , UT, demonstrated  cruelty by trapping and abusing an innocent cat. His potential to inflict such terror and pain on a harmless creature while enjoying doing so is concerning and frightening. The fact that he video taped the abuse and posted about it on Facebook saying the cat "deserved punishment" is alarming. Especially since he has a young child and a pet at home ( according to his video). 

Many concerned calls came in to both the Ogden Police Department and Animal Services.  We do not know where the cat is or if the cat is still alive.  An investigation is in progress, and we the goal is for the man responsible to be charged to the fullest extent of the law AND have any animals in his home removed from his care. 

Countless studies show that animal abuse is often a red flag for other violent behaviors. According to the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, there's a link between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, up to and including domestic violence and murder. We cannot turn a blind eye towards this issue, especially when the abuser has both a young child and a pet under his guardianship.

The effects of such a horror extend beyond the immediate victim. This act not only demonstrates a man's ability to abuse a helpless creature but also poses an alarming question of character for someone nurturing young lives.

We call upon our local intake center, animal protection authorities, and law enforcement agencies. We implore them to investigate this incident, press charges, and bring justice for the abused cat. In doing so, we demonstrate our stance on such horrific acts and send a clear message within our community that cruelty towards animals will never be condoned.
