Investigate Albany Medical Center's Safety Violations
The Issue
The pain of losing my daughter Milani Jream Andrea Finch is indescribable. She was taken to Albany Medical Center for what we were told was a common cold, but she ended up contracting MRSA and E. coli. Shockingly, we were never informed about her culture results. They did call for a cardiologist to see why her blood pressure was low saying it could be a heart issue. The cardiologist assured them her heart is unremarkable but was underfilled. They received advice from the cardiologist to "consider fluids." We assumed she was already receiving fluids, so how could she possibly be dehydrated? She was feeding and wetting diapers when she was first admitted to their care. Just 20 hours in the PICU, and she was gone.
This tragedy is not unique. Albany Medical Center is plagued with alarming issues that demand immediate attention. The hospital boasts over 500 violations, with a staggering 488 of those being staffing violations. This is a clear indicator of systemic failure and negligence that is costing lives and causing unnecessary suffering to patients and their families.
Reports of high patient mortality, rampant infections, and frequent misdiagnoses are deeply concerning. How can a healthcare institution with so many infractions continue to operate without oversight? The health and safety of patients are being jeopardized due to chronic understaffing and inadequate care.
We must urge New York State to conduct a thorough investigation into Albany Medical Center's practices and enforce stringent measures to rectify these violations. It is vital to ensure that this hospital meets fundamental healthcare standards and fulfills its duty to protect and care for its patients.
New York State has the authority and obligation to safeguard its citizens. Enforcing stricter regulations and ensuring compliance at Albany Medical Center will prevent further tragedies like the one my family endured. Please sign this petition to demand accountability and necessary reforms at Albany Medical Center to protect the lives and well-being of current and future patients.
