Just three days after Andreessen Horowitz cofounder Ben Horowitz and his wife Felicia gave a combined $1 million to the Better Nevada PAC in May 2026, Gov. Joe Lombardo posted a video publicly endorsing Nevada's data-center boom. A week later, the same PAC collected another $1 million from Jessica Roy, wife of Switch data-center founder Rob Roy, based on campaign finance filings reported by The Lever. By late June, the pro-Lombardo PAC had also taken in $5 million from the Republican Governors Association, a group that has pulled in millions more from AI and data-center investors nationwide.

This money is flowing into the driest state in the country. State researchers project data centers could soon consume more than a third of Nevada's electricity and as much water each year as roughly 150,000 households, even as cities and counties statewide move to pause new data-center construction.

"Now we know why Joe Lombardo says he's 'wholeheartedly in support of data centers': He's bought and paid for by them," said Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, Lombardo's opponent in the governor's race, according to The Lever.

Nevadans deserve to know whether their governor's public support for this industry is being shaped by seven-figure checks from the very people who profit from it. We're calling on the Nevada Secretary of State and the Nevada Commission on Ethics to investigate these donations, determine whether they influenced Lombardo's data-center endorsement, and require full transparency on how future tax breaks and utility decisions tied to these donors get made.
