We call for an urgent, independent investigation into HMP Long Lartin, where reports have surfaced of extreme prisoner neglect, psychological abuse, and inhumane conditions.

A man in a serious life threatening mental health crisis is being held in segregation, without medication, medical attention, food or water, wearing soiled clothing, left in a cold cell with no toilet, no sink, and no heating. This is not an isolated case — many prisoners reportedly live in unsanitary conditions, locked in cells without running water, still forced to “slop out” due to staffing failures and systemic neglect.

Baron James Timpson, a known prison reform advocate, visited HMP Long Lartin during this period. Despite being informed of these horrific conditions:

    •    He did not visit the affected wings

    •    He did not see the segregation unit where the abuse took place

    •    He publicly praised the visit on social media, offering no mention of the suffering occurring inside This is performative reform — and it enables harm We demand:

    •    An independent public investigation into HMP Long Lartin

    •    A public explanation and apology from Baron Timpson

    •    Immediate reform in the treatment of mentally ill and vulnerable prisoners

    •    The end of slopping out, and guaranteed access to basic hygiene and mental health support.

And here’s the truth:

Broken men are being released back into society — and it makes everyone less safe.

When prisons abuse people instead of rehabilitating them, they don’t come out reformed — they come out more damaged, more unstable, more disconnected from humanity.

If we ignore the treatment of prisoners, we are ignoring a direct threat to our own safety.

If you treat someone like an animal, they will come out believing that’s what they are.

Fighting for prisoners’ human rights is not soft. It’s survival. It’s protection. It’s justice.

Protecting them protects your children, your families, and your communities.

Hold the system accountable — because justice without humanity is no justice at all.

Baron Timpson visited HMP Long Lartin. He knew. He said nothing.

                                 This isn’t justice. It’s abuse.

These broken men are being released back into society.
