CHANGE THE PLAN AND MAKE MESSER BETTER! 

Recently the Providence Public School Department has come up with a plan to demolish Asa Messer and construct a new building which would be K-8 merging West Broadway Middle School and Asa Messer.  According to the plan which can be found on the PPSD website, this is currently planned for construction starting some time in Fall 2025 and lasting approximately two years into Fall 2027.  Placing our children into a “Swing Space” for the next two years over at 99 Kenyon Street (former Lauro Elementary).  

As a part of this plan, they are only looking to renovate half of the building to use as a swing space while construction is underway.  This has raised several questions and concerns among parents and staff alike. 

Rather than invest money and resources into a temporary space let's MAKE MESSER BETTER!  By investing in Asa Messer, we can turn an already existing community into a state-of-the-art learning environment with the resources and tools our children need.  Instead of wasting $62.5M on an unnecessary new building plus the cost of renovating the swing space, we should upgrade and expand in order to utilize the existing Asa Messer building.  This would not only save money but put good use to a space that would otherwise be demolished.  Let’s put a pause on the project and allow EVERYONE to weigh in.
