Introduce UI/UX and Animation/Game Design Concentrations at Purdue Northwest

Introduce UI/UX and Animation/Game Design Concentrations at Purdue Northwest

The Issue

As a junior in the Computer Graphics Technology major, I find myself struggling with the broad nature of our curriculum when applying for jobs and internships. This struggle is not unique to me but is shared by many of my peers. We believe that introducing concentrations in User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) and Animation/Game Design would greatly enhance our educational experience and better prepare us for the job market.   These concentrations could be offered to students in CGT, VisCom, CS, CIT, and other majors at Purdue Northwest.

Specific areas such as UI/UX design are expected to see even more significant growth due to increased focus on creating user-friendly products (source: Adobe Blog).  In the CGT major, students can take up to 15 credit hours in user-related or animation/game design classes.  The curriculum could be changed to let these students have a concentration if they took the required classes for each concentration.

By offering these concentrations, our university can stay ahead of industry trends while providing students with valuable skills needed in today's digital world. It would also give us a competitive edge when applying for internships or jobs since we'd be able to showcase specialized knowledge instead of just general understanding.

We urge the administration at our Hammond-based institution to consider this proposal seriously. By doing so, they will not only be investing in their students' futures but also ensuring that their curriculum remains relevant and competitive.
