The Issue

Growing up in New Braunfels, it’s been clear to me how important sports are to our community. For many young people, baseball is more than just a pastime—it's a vital part of their childhood and development. Yet, despite its significance, New Braunfels Independent School District (ISD) has not provided middle schoolers the opportunity to play an organized form of what many consider to be America's favorite sport, unlike our neighboring counties.

In Comal County and Guadalupe County, students have the privilege of participating in baseball during their middle school years. This early exposure to structured sports cultivates not only talents and skills but also instills values like teamwork, determination, and perseverance. More so, it opens pathways for athletic scholarships and could be a stepping stone to a career in sports. Unfortunately, our children in New Braunfels ISD are missing out on these invaluable opportunities.

The lack of a middle school baseball program disadvantages our students. It limits their ability to compete at the same level as their peers once they reach high school. As other districts propel their students forward with developed programs, ours are left at the starting line—struggling to catch up when high school baseball opportunities arise.

I urge the New Braunfels ISD to consider introducing a middle school baseball program. It would not only align with offerings in adjacent districts, but it will foster school spirit, enhance student development, and promote healthy lifestyles—objectives that are inherently educational. More important than competition is providing our children with the environments that allow them to thrive as individuals while being part of a team.

There are numerous benefits associated with sports at a young age, including improved academic performance, better health, and well-rounded social skills. Giving our children the chance to engage in baseball can create lasting positive impacts on their lives and our community.

Please sign this petition to encourage the New Braunfels ISD to institute a middle school baseball program. Every signature is a step towards providing our children with rightful opportunities to grow and excel through sports.
