The issue

Would you like to see Mandarin offered as an additional language option at a Brisbane state primary school?

I’m a parent at Rainworth State School and have started a parent-led petition to gauge community interest in having Mandarin Chinese considered as an additional language learning opportunity at Rainworth.

Mandarin is already taught in a number of Brisbane schools, including state and independent schools. I believe giving children exposure to such a different language and writing system can be educationally valuable, while Mandarin can also be a useful skill for Australia's future connections with Asia, business and international opportunities.

This is not a campaign against Italian or Rainworth's existing Italian program, and it is not intended to affect the current teachers. The aim is simply to demonstrate whether there is sufficient community interest to explore what Mandarin opportunities might be possible in the future.

If you're a Rainworth parent, future Rainworth family, or member of the local community who supports giving children access to Mandarin, I'd really appreciate your support.

Thank you!
