The Issue

For far too long, young men at Parkville High School , Maryland, have been deprived of the opportunity to participate in an organized volleyball team. As a passionate advocate for sports and inclusivity, I am deeply concerned that our school lacks this vital program. Sports are not just about physical activity, they're about teamwork, discipline, and building a community. Every student, regardless of gender, deserves equal access to these opportunities.

Currently, Parkville High School offers various sports programs, yet male students who wish to play volleyball find themselves without a team. Volleyball is an exciting and dynamic sport that develops critical skills such as agility, teamwork, and strategic thinking. With surrounding schools having thriving male volleyball teams, it puts our students at a disadvantage when applying for college sports scholarships and participating in regional tournaments.

Statistics show that high schools with both male and female volleyball teams report increased student engagement and a more inclusive school environment. Adding a male volleyball team will not only boost school spirit but will also enhance our overall athletic program. It promotes equality and ensures that every student has the opportunity to pursue what they love.

We propose that Parkville High School allocate resources towards establishing a male volleyball team at the start of the next academic year. This includes budgeting for coaching, practice facilities, and essential gear. We encourage collaboration with the existing athletics department to integrate the program smoothly.

By signing this petition, you are supporting male students at Parkville High School in their quest for equal sporting opportunities. Let us empower our students to express themselves, cultivate their talents, and take pride in representing our school on the volleyball court. Please sign this petition to make a positive change!
