Introduce Life Skills Education into Our School Curriculum

The issue

I write this petition as a 29 year-old still struggling to navigate the adult terrain. Despite my years of education, I find myself uninformed about everyday life-administration necessities such as taxes, car registration, or how to keep a sound financial footing through investing. Like many peers of my generation, I've been left floundering in the deep end once school terms ended. Therefore, I believe that our education system needs a reality touch - we must introduce life skills as a mandatory subject in schools.

Existing curricula, which originated in a time when financial literacy was not as crucial, no longer suffice. A 2018 study by the National Endowment for Financial Education found that only 24% of millennials demonstrate basic financial literacy. The syllabus must be reexamined and amended to prepare our children for real-world responsibilities, including understanding of fiscal matters and businesses, career guidance and basic task management.

We should be teaching our children not only academic theories but life skills lessons that they can carry on into their adulthood. As of now, there's an unsettling knowledge gap that many young adults experience after leaving the education system. This introduces Life skills in schools is a much-needed change that can bridge this gap, equip our younger generations with necessary knowledge, and pave their way to becoming self-sufficient adults. It's high time our schools become arenas of holistic growth, blending traditional academic knowledge with essential life lessons. Please sign this petition if you believe that life skills should become a mandatory subject in our schools.
