My journey as a mother of a CBSE student, has seen him juggling academics with his passion for sports and arts, which has been both challenging and rewarding. Participating in state and national level competitions requires an extraordinary amount of time and effort. However, unlike his peers in state board schools across India, who receive grace marks to acknowledge their achievements in sports and arts, CBSE students are often left without recognition. This neglect has a profound impact on their academic records, scholarships, and future prospects.

In regions like Maharashtra kerala and Tamil Nadu, students are awarded grace marks for excelling in co-curricular activities, a system that encourages them to pursue their passions without academic penalty. Why should CBSE students be any different? Many of them attend rigorous coaching and undertake extensive practice sessions for competitions in sports and arts, often sacrificing valuable study time. They strive to bring accolades to their schools and communities, yet their achievements are not reflected in their academic scores.

The introduction of grace marks for CBSE students who excel in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, dance, theatre, and more would be a transformative step. It recognises the holistic development of students, acknowledging that success is not just confined to textbooks. This change can foster a supportive academic environment, encouraging more students to pursue their interests parallel to their academic pursuits.

Studies have consistently shown that involvement in sports and arts enhances students' cognitive, emotional, and social skills, which inevitably contribute to better performance in exams. By adopting this inclusive policy, the CBSE board can inspire students to develop a diverse set of skills, ultimately preparing them better for the challenges of the future.
