The Issue

My name is Grace the owner of Tell My Story Podcast, and I am a survivor of domestic violence. I've endured nearly five years of severe abuse at the hands of someone I trusted. It was only after I had been repeatedly harmed that I received a Clare’s Law disclosure about my abuser's violent past. Had I known this invaluable information earlier, perhaps I could have avoided much of my suffering. Knowing that I could have made an informed decision to protect myself is a heart-wrenching thought. Clare’s Law has the potential to transform lives, yet its presence is limited to only a few countries. This law empowers individuals by providing them with critical information regarding their partners' violent histories, enabling them to make informed, potentially life-saving choices. The tragic reality is that this life-saving opportunity is not available worldwide, and that must change.

I meet thousands of survivors on a daily basis, reading their stories, listening to the horror they have experienced. And many places do not have this disclosure to protect themselves, which has to change.

Domestic violence is a global epidemic affecting countless individuals regardless of age, gender, or nationality. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men globally have experienced physical or sexual violence, usually at the hands of an intimate partner. The introduction of Clare’s Law on an international scale could significantly reduce these numbers by offering a proactive approach to preventing domestic violence before it begins. Imagine a world where everyone has the right to access potentially life-saving information. By adopting Clare’s Law globally, we can provide hope and protection to millions who might otherwise continue to suffer in silence.

However, it's not just about the numbers. It's about the lives saved, the trauma prevented, and the empowerment of individuals everywhere to make informed decisions about their relationships. Many countries currently lack such measures, leaving their citizens vulnerable and unaware of the potential danger posed by partners with a history of violence. This lack of awareness can have devastating consequences.

Therefore, we urge policymakers, governments, and human rights organizations worldwide to work together to introduce and enforce Clare’s Law. The global adoption of this legislation will enable people everywhere to take proactive steps in safeguarding their lives and will act as a deterrent to would-be abusers. We can create a world where everyone has the right to information and the ability to protect themselves.

Sign this petition to demand the global implementation of Clare’s Law and stand with survivors everywhere who deserve the right to live free from fear and harm. Together, let's make a change and ensure safety and justice for all.
