The Issue

Growing up, soccer was not just a sport for us—it was a passion, a community, and a powerful tool for teaching discipline and teamwork. We had always hoped to see our community embrace this global sport. Imagine the positive impact on students who, like us, could benefit from the skills and experiences that organized soccer brings.

Currently, Iowa Park High School does not offer soccer as part of its athletic program. This limits the opportunities for students to engage in a sport that could enrich their high school experience and prepare them for future challenges, both on and off the field. Soccer fosters not only physical fitness but also strategic thinking, cooperation, and global understanding.

Nationwide statistics highlight how soccer can contribute significantly to students' academic and personal development. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), there were over 800,000 students participating in high school soccer in the 2021-2022 school year. Schools implementing soccer programs have reported enhanced student engagement, improved school spirit, and increased college scholarship opportunities for their students.

Moreover, in the state of Texas, soccer has gained tremendous popularity over the decades. Texas is home to several professional teams and leagues, providing a pathway for students aspiring to pursue soccer at more advanced levels. Bringing soccer to Iowa Park High School aligns with these larger trends and broadens the spectrum of athletic opportunities available to our children.

We understand that establishing new sports programs requires careful planning and resource allocation. However, many programs have thrived by utilizing community partnerships, grant opportunities, and volunteer support. To this end, we are ready to assist with the planning and volunteering process to ensure that this initiative is sustainable and successful. Furthermore, including a soccer program could attract new families to our district, enhancing community growth and development.

Implementing a soccer program at Iowa Park High School would undoubtedly require collaboration and commitment. Still, it offers an invaluable investment in our students' futures, equipping them with skills and memories that last a lifetime. By signing this petition, you support a brighter, more diverse future for our community's youth.

Please join us in requesting the Iowa Park CISD School Board and Administration to introduce boys’ and girls’ soccer programs at Iowa Park High School. Sign the petition to make a difference!
