Across India, lakhs of small online sellers, home-based entrepreneurs, artisans, women-led businesses and micro enterprises depend on India Post to deliver their products to customers.

For these businesses, shipping is not a minor operational expense. It directly affects whether a customer completes an order or cancels it. When postal charges become difficult to absorb, small sellers are forced either to reduce their already limited profit margins or pass the additional cost on to customers.

This affects businesses selling sarees, garments, handicrafts, jewellery, books, handmade products, food items and many other affordable products through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other online platforms.

Unlike large companies, most home-based and micro businesses cannot negotiate special courier rates. They also do not always have the shipment volume required to qualify for conventional bulk discounts. Affordable and accessible India Post services are therefore essential for their survival and growth.

We respectfully request the Ministry of Communications, the Department of Posts and India Post to:

1. Review the present postal and shipping costs from the perspective of small online sellers and micro enterprises.

2. Introduce a special concessional shipping category for small online businesses, home-based entrepreneurs and Udyam-registered MSMEs.

3. Provide practical volume-based discounts beginning from a lower number of monthly shipments, so that micro sellers can also benefit.

4. Consider a simple Small Business Postal Account with transparent rates, digital receipts, shipment tracking and easier access to business services.

5. Consult representatives of micro enterprises, women-led businesses, artisans and home-based sellers before future tariff revisions.

India Post plays a vital role in connecting businesses and customers across urban, rural and remote India. This petition is not against India Post or any individual. It is a constructive request for a fair and inclusive postal system that supports entrepreneurship, self-employment and local economic growth.
