The Issue

As a parent, I truly appreciate the safety measures taken by Kennywood by instituting a chaperone policy that requires adults to accompany kids 15 and under. Ensuring the safety of our children is paramount, and having an adult present definitely helps achieve that goal. However, this has inadvertently led to another issue – the cost burden on parents or guardians accompanying their children.

Currently, if you have a young teen who owns a membership and wishes to enjoy a day at Kennywood with friends, an adult has to purchase a full-priced ticket simply to walk around the park with them. This can become quite expensive, especially when considering not just the ticket price but also the additional costs incurred on food and other incidentals within the park. For those adults who aren't interested in riding but are keen on fulfilling the chaperone role, a full-price ticket seems excessive.

The solution? A free non-rider, entry only pass for chaperoning adults over 21. This would allow adults to enter and circulate the park without having to pay for a costly full-access experience they are not going to use. This not only alleviates the financial burden for many families but aligns with the spirit of the chaperone policy by making it more accessible for adults to accompany younger visitors safely.

A non-rider pass would demonstrate Kennywood’s commitment to families and its understanding of the financial pressures many face today. Giving adults a budget-friendly option would likely increase family visits and add to the overall park enjoyment without compromising safety measures. Moreover, increased visitation could ultimately lead to more spending within the park on food and other services, offsetting the reduced ticket revenue.

Making Kennywood more accessible for chaperones fosters a community environment and encourages more families to enjoy the park’s attractions together, even if not everyone seeks the thrill of the rides. Let’s make Kennywood a welcoming place for all families by supporting a non-rider pass initiative.

Please sign this petition to urge Kennywood to consider a non-rider pass for adults over 21. Together, we can make the park a more accommodating and family-friendly destination!
