Introduce a fee-free family-support visa pathway, Australia & Solomon Islands
The issue
Currently, Australian citizens and permanent residents with family in the Solomon Islands face daunting barriers when trying to reunite with their loved ones. This separation is not just a personal loss; it is a violation of our cultural rights to maintain strong family bonds. The financial burden of visa fees and the complexity of the application process often makes it impossible for our family members to join us or support us.
A fee-free family-support visa pathway would break these barriers and bring loved ones back together, enabling them to provide essential caregiving support and foster our shared cultural heritage. To make this feasible, the introduction of health, character, and visa requirements would ensure that this pathway remains fair and secure.
In addition, establishing reciprocal arrangements with the Solomon Islands could substantially ease the economic burden for families on both sides. By reducing or eliminating visa application costs for eligible Australian citizens visiting the Solomon Islands for family support, we promote equality and fairness and so our australian citizen and dual citizen solomon children are not divided but supported and can maintain close relationships with immediate family in both countries.
This petition seeks not only to mend the hearts of families like mine but also reflects upon the historical and cultural ties that bind Australia with the Solomon Islands. Our call to action is underpinned by the belief that families deserve to be together, and that government policy should reflect this fundamental truth.
Joining your support with ours, we ask you to respectfully urge the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives to see the necessity and cultural importance of this visa reform. Let us come together to celebrate our familial ties and make reunions a reality.
Please sign this petition and support a family reunification initiative that aligns with our shared values of compassion, fairness, and community.
