PETITION FOR INTRODUCTION OF A DIRECT AIR SERVICE BETWEEN NAVI MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ( NMAI) AND BHUBANESWAR

Subject: Request for introduction of a direct flight between Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Bhubaneswar – at least one flight daily or on alternate days

Respected Sir,

I would like to respectfully bring to the attention of the Government, the need for a direct air connectivity between Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

With the development of Navi Mumbai International Airport as a major aviation hub for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, there is a strong need to establish direct connectivity between NMIA and important cities across India. Bhubaneswar, being the capital of Odisha and an important centre for business, education, healthcare, tourism and administration, deserves direct connectivity with Navi Mumbai.

At present, passengers travelling between Navi Mumbai and Bhubaneswar may have to depend on connecting flights or travel to another airport, resulting in additional travel time, inconvenience and expense. It is very difficult situation for Senior and Super Senior Citizens and Sick people staying in Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas.

A direct NMIA–Bhubaneswar service would provide significant benefits:

1. Convenience for passengers: A direct service would substantially reduce total travel time and eliminate the inconvenience associated with connecting flights.

2. Large catchment area: NMIA serves the rapidly developing Navi Mumbai region as well as the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region, making it an important origin/destination market.

3. Odisha–Maharashtra connectivity: Improved air connectivity would facilitate business, employment, education, tourism and family travel between Odisha and Maharashtra.

4. Business and industrial development: Better connectivity would support increased movement of business travellers, entrepreneurs and professionals between the two regions.

5. Tourism: Direct connectivity would encourage tourism to Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark, Chilka lake, and other important destinations.

6. Healthcare and education: Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Odisha both have significant healthcare and educational institutions. Direct air connectivity would make access easier for students, patients and accompanying family members including Senior Citizens.

7. Growing importance of NMIA: As Navi Mumbai International Airport develops into a major airport serving the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, connecting it directly with state capitals such as Bhubaneswar would significantly improve the national air-connectivity network.

Our request

I, therefore, respectfully request the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Hon'ble Minister of Civil Aviation and the concerned authorities to kindly consider facilitating the introduction of a direct flight between Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar (BBI).

As an initial measure, the service may be introduced with:

• One flight every day, OR
• At least one flight on alternate days,

depending upon the assessment of passenger demand and operational feasibility.

The service could subsequently be increased based on passenger response and load factors.

I request the Ministry of Civil Aviation, airport authorities and airlines to kindly assess the potential demand for this route and take appropriate steps to facilitate its commencement at an early date.

This connectivity would be a valuable addition to India's expanding aviation network and would greatly benefit citizens travelling between Maharashtra and Odisha.

I sincerely hope that this request will receive the kind consideration of the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Hon'ble Minister of Civil Aviation and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha.
