Intervene now to stop the Thai-Cambodia border war
The Issue
December 8, 2025 ongoing armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has reached a critical and dangerous phase, demanding immediate intervention from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Too many lives have been lost, families have been torn apart, and communities rendered unsafe. Imagine the cries of children who cannot go to school and the despair of those who have become orphans amidst relentless violence. The time for action is now.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) rulings on the Khmer (Cambodia)-Thai border dispute centered on the Preah Vihear temple have consistently sided with Cambodia. The 1962 judgment clearly granted Cambodia sovereignty and ordered Thai troops to withdraw. These demands were further solidified by a 2013 interpretation, which confirmed Cambodia's control over the surrounding territory, thus requiring Thailand to withdraw its forces.
In addition, a 2011 provisional order called for both nations to pull back their troops and establish a demilitarized zone. Despite these rulings, the situation has not improved, and the conflict escalates, deepening the crisis.
This is not just a regional concern but a pressing international issue. It involves the need for upholding international law and respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity prescribed by the ICJ. We need the United Nations Security Council to convene urgently and take concrete steps to enforce these rulings.
The UNSC should pressure both nations to adhere to the ICJ decisions, and forge a pathway toward a peaceful resolution. Allocating a peacekeeping mission would ensure the provisional borders are respected while facilitating dialogue and negotiations between both parties.
Families in the border region yearn for the return of peace and security, as prolonged conflict endangers innocent lives and disrupts daily living. The time for the international community, particularly the UNSC, to act decisively is overdue.
Please help us in urging the United Nations to take swift and strong action. Sign this petition to call upon the global community to prioritize peace and uphold international laws, protecting the lives and futures of those caught in this crossfire. Your signature can make a difference.
