Friends,
Congratulations on reaching 1,000+ supporters!
Over the last few days, it has been so encouraging to see the number of signatures steadily climb and to read the heartfelt stories in the comments section. Thank you for actively embodying the kind of unity in diversity that we pray IVCF will choose to embrace!
Our voices are being heard!
The Religious News Service (RNS) has taken note of our open letter and has covered it in this article: http://religionnews.com/2016/10/11/intervarsity-authors-and-alumni-protest-policy-terminating-employees-who-support-gay-marriage/
And we are not alone!
28 InterVarsity Press (IVP) authors have joined together to write their own public letter, urging IVCF to revoke the “involuntary termination” policy. (The full text of their letter is available in the RNS article cited above.)
Also, Justin Lee, Executive Director of the Gay Christian Network (GCN), has issued a statement. It calls upon IVCF to rescind the policy and, from its position “as a global organization of LGBT Christians across theological divides,” asks for the opportunity for GCN to meet regularly with InterVarsity decision-makers to help the organization improve their support of LGBT students and staff. Please continue to share and engage!
As the IVCF website states, as one of 300,000 alumni you are part of the organization’s legacy and “can play an active role in helping InterVarsity write the next chapter of [its] history.” There are over 1000 of us, but there are many more alumni that still need to be engaged on this issue!
Please continue to reach out to your alumni contacts and talk to them about what’s happening. Share your experiences with them and tell them why this issue matters to you. Ask them to consider joining you in signing this letter. Ask them to share with their alumni contacts.
And, finally, if you haven’t already, please add your fellowship, graduation year, and donor history to the comments section of this letter so that IVCF can know more about the alumni reaching out to them.
Thank you again for your support!
In Christ,
Concerned Alumni of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
