I have just sent the petition to the ISSF for their consideration, along with this letter, and the comments of the thousands of supporters - to you all - many thanks
To The President and Secretary General, ISSF Munich GERMANY
Dear Sirs,
We acknowledge the many years of hard work you both have done on behalf of the ISSF and the shooters of the world,
promoting ISSF and shooting sports at Olympic Games and in general competitions.
As shooters, we are very grateful for these efforts, and wish that they continue for many years to come.
The petition attached has the signatures of over 5,000 people from Australia and all over the world.
These people have signed this petition in the hope that the 50m Pistol discipline can be saved and NOT cancelled at the Olympic Games .
The overwhelming feeling of the signatories is that 50m Pistol embodies the essence of shooting. This very difficult and exacting discipline truly tests the best athletes in the world and produces champions who’s skill and endurance is of the highest standard.
We acknowledge the issue of gender equity and feel there are many alternatives, other than cancelling the 50m pistol event entirely.
Shooting has undergone many changes to enhance its popularity amongst Olympic sports, and we have all accepted the need for these and embraced things such as finals and quotas.
However we feel the end of 50m Pistol at the Olympic Games would be a travesty, and the beginning of the end of shooting as a sport.
Please reconsider your decision to drop 50m pistol, and pleas read the comments attached – some from Olympic medalists – many from international competitors , current and past.
Respectfully yours, Bruce Quick – Sport Shooter, Olympian and supporter of ISSF shooting in Australia
