International Soap Box Derby Inc.: Raise the Age Limit for Racing to 19

Every year racers age out of the big race before or during their senior year in high school. This is because the average age deadline for school systems is that they must turn 5 years of age before August 1st to enter kindergarten. If a student turns five before that date, they will turn seventeen before their senior year and therefore turn eighteen before the August 1st deadline set for All-American. Consequently, the target for this rule change is seniors in high school: those who have one more year at home before going out into the world. Racers love this sport more than anything and they lose out on a year of competing because the rules only let them race until they turn 18. Raising the age limit to 19, thus allowing 18-year-olds to race, will allow racers everywhere to be able to race out their senior years before heading out to their future. “Soap Box Derby isn’t a sport, it’s a passion.”
