Remove The Ban Of Marijuana In The Olympics

The Issue

Sha'Carri Richardson is a track and field sprinter who has had an amazing track record. Just a month ago she was on her way to participate in her first Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Unfortunately on July 1st, 2021 Richardson tested positive for marijuana. As a result, The World Anti-Doping Agency could suspend her for 30 days. Recreational drugs are legal in the state of Oregon .Marijuana is not a performance-enhancing drug and although the Olympics is aware of this , marijuana still remains squarely on the banned list for Olympic sports. Marijuana did not give her a competitive advantage and marijuana does not change her status as an athlete . She has worked extremely hard to make it to the Olympics and she deserves to be participating in the Olympics. Richardson and other athletes should not be penalized nor banned for using a drug that is legalized in many states. Please sign this petition in solidarity to help Richardson be allowed to compete in the Olympics and to remove the ban of marijuana in the Olympics so this wont happen again.
