Ensure the protection of street children of Rio de Janeiro
Ensure the protection of street children of Rio de Janeiro
The Issue
There are an estimated 3,000+ homeless street children that live on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The primary causes of this phenomenon are typically poverty, parental desertion, breakdown of a family, or the death of a parent(s).
During the 80s and 90s, notorious "death squads" run by off-duty police officers engaged in the sick game of systematically raping, abusing and murdering the street children of Brazil, and no one bothered to stop them, because these children had no parents who cared.
The goal of my petition is to ensure that in preparation to "improve" and "clean up" the city of Rio de Janeiro to "look good" on the world stage, the civil rights of Rio's street children are not violated.
