Adopt stricter guidelines for tanker companies that require severe monetary punishments and/or loss of employment for oil tanker officers that operate tankers while distracted, intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
The Issue
One of the greatest sources of pollution of our oceans and water ways is oil that spills from shipping accidents. Stricter guidelines for tanker operators will decrease the probability of accidents and oil spills that occur as a result of those accidents. If there are fewer oil spills, the pollution of our oceans and waterways will be reduced -- which will be mean safer water for marine life.
