International Day Against Stereotypes

International Day Against Stereotypes
The Issue
In recent years, the whole world has spoken out for racial justice with Black Lives Matter, with the LGBT+ community with Black Trans Lives Matter and with the Virtual Day of Silence. The COVID crisis exacerbated the gender inequality and issues faced by people with disabilities in our society. All these discriminated groups have in common exclusion from mainstream social, economic, educational and/or cultural life and the fact that they are often subject to stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. In 2021 5 countries (Spain, Italy, Turkey, Malta and Finland) have started to collaborate together in the EUqualizer project, an Erasmus KA2 project addressing the problem of stereotypes. The importance of stereotypes is often overlooked and disregarded. Therefore, it was decided to create a project targeting educational institutions and organisations, with the sole aim of bringing the conversation about stereotypes into different learning environments. The project focuses on 4 groups that need our attention: the LGBT+ community, gender inequality, disability and racism. Among the goals we want to achieve is to institute an International Day against Stereotypes and that is why we are collecting signatures.
