To End all Forms of Human Rights Abuses in The Gambia

The Issue

We are a group of Gambian women with the goal to put an abrupt end to the tyranny of a regime that has been in power for twenty-two years.

We stand collectively for justice for all. We stand together in unity.
We stand collectively for a change of governance in The Gambia and the instituting of law and order based on some fundamental human rights principles.

In the wake of the brutal attack on and arrest of our women folks- on the 15 and 16 of April 2016- by members of  The Gambia security forces for peacefully exercising their freedoms of speech and assembly, in what is supposed to be a democratic country, we cannot stay silent any longer.

Any society attacking women and children has crossed all boundaries. We demand the immediate release of Fatoumata Jawara, Fatou Camara, Ngoi  Njie and others whose identities are yet to be revealed by The Gambian government. After a week in detention, the women have not be arraigned, thus violating their rights to be taken to court before the expiration of the 72 hours of their arrest.

The suffering of women somewhere should be the plight of women everywhere. These women have done nothing wrong to deserve the punishment that is meted out to them, their families and the Gambian women community as a whole. Our societies could do better for our women.

We call on all global citizens to please take some time to sign this important and urgent petition.  Please help us publicize the human rights issues in The Gambia and so that justice is served in the case of these women and all other political prisoners in The Gambia.

You, you and you can help save lives in The Gambia! Now is the time! Let's all do this together!

Sincerely yours,
Gambian Suffragettes
