Bronx born and bred, he was a club fighter who made his shot count! He captured the Middleweight Championship with the Ring Magazine upset of the year in 1988 with his 3rd round TKO of Tommy Hearns he battled on and won his second title by blowing out Darren Van Horn for the IBF Super Middleweight championship. He battled Tommy Hearns again this time lifting his Light Heavyweight Championship. He also won a belt in the Heavyweight Division from Gerrie Coetzee.
