Dear Sirs and Madam: Your tenant, Roger Otoneil Jimenez, actively preaches hate during his services. His “ushers” openly threaten non-violent protesters who continue to show up on Sundays and Wednesdays. We are there to witness their eventual exodus, not to threaten or intimidate them. As much as they do not believe our expression of opposition should be legal, we do not believe in suppressing their 1st Amendment right to say vile things about people they hate but have never met. But we do want them gone from our community. Roger Jimenez was unhappy when 12 of us showed up last night because he told his flock during his second Sunday sermon that we would never be back. He was wrong so they called the Sheriff’s Department. We were not asked to leave, but the Department is going to contact John Shorey for clarification of our right to be there. We do not dispute Harsch owns the property; it is not public property. What we would like is clear conditional permission to protest Jimenez's church -- a vile and hateful man who wants to see people murdered. The 12 were: A retired process analyst (me), a retired school teacher, a disability pensioner, a college professor/poet, a golf professional, a wildlife biologist, a college student who is also a Coptic Christian and biblical scholar, his little brother, and four high school students (one of whom is the daughter of another of your tenants). We were entirely non-violent and peaceful. We always are that and we will always be that. One of Verity’s ushers put his hands on the college student tonight. That same guy put his hands on a professional photographer (twice) at the big Sunday rally and was told by a Deputy (after the second time, which she witnessed) to not do it again or he would be going to jail that day (I personally witnessed all three events). That same guy (along with 8 other ushers) attempted to surround the retired teacher and me on Sunday night in a failed attempt to intimidate us into leaving – he also referred to me as “a gay pirate” – and I don’t even know what that means. My point being: We are not Nazis demonstrating for hate and stabbing people, as happened this past Sunday at the Capitol – we cannot be provoked into violence. We are educated and concerned people (mostly adults) who care about peace and equality and the safety and security of the people we love. Verity’s ushers – who have made direct threats to myself and others are trying to convince the Deputies to force us out to the sidewalk, which would nullify our effect. We are not there to get people driving by on the road to stop in and gang up on Verity – we are there to let the members of Verity know that advocating the murder of our loved ones is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are trying to force Verity out of your property by cutting off their funding and their ability to stay – we are trying to let their members know we will always be there, witnessing, until they are gone. We cannot attack their speech, which is horrible but on the fine line of legal. We can only ruin them, financially. If you would be so kind as to communicate to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department that we have given you our assurance of peaceful intent, that cameras mounted on your buildings will capture proof of causation should anything unfortunate occur (which I do not predict will be the case), and that – given those conditions – we have your permission to peacefully gather on Harsch’s property, the amount of good this simple message would accomplish would be immeasurable. I won’t bend your ear with anecdote, but I will offer this: Roger Jimenez talks a lot of smack about his landlord, mocks everyone’s intent -- yours, ours, the government's -- calls us agents of Satan -- and his people make threats -- but we, who seek affirmation of your permission to stand on Harsch’s property, are entirely peaceful. Best regards and sincerely, Sean Blackburn Sacramento, CA
