This petition is to the Intermountain Healthcare Organization and its leadership including CEO Marc Harrison, MD to [once again] change the name of "Dixie Regional Medical Center" and remove the word "Dixie." 

To quote your own words Dr. Harrison: "The murders of George Floyd and so many other black men and women have forced us to confront systemic racism. The issue can no longer be ignored. We must reset the bar for ourselves and our industry on racial equality"... "We all have a responsibility to be accountable to one another to ensure we provide a respectful and safe workplace." 

The Southern Utah area is full of references to "Dixie" and are associated directly with the historically racist and slave-era Southern Confederate States. This includes Dixie State University, Dixie High School, and many other businesses in the community. Removing the word "Dixie" from the hospital will emphasize that respect, diversity, and equality are more important than clinging to so called heritage and nostalgia.

Intermountain Healthcare changed the name of the entire organization in 2005 for reasons far less momentuous than combating racism and embracing cultural and individual equality. Dixie Regional Medical Center has undergone 4 name changes itself since it was established in 1913. 

Intermountain Healthcare and Marc Harrison now have the opportunity to raise the bar and once again be pioneers in taking meaningful action toward societal and cultural equity. 

Removing Intermountain's association with "Dixie" is one small action that can be taken to "...achieve equity across our organization while setting the highest standard for our industry." - Dr. Marc Harrison, MD.
