Intensify Clean Up Efforts for Coastal Streams and Estuaries in North America

The Issue

I am deeply connected to the natural world around me, particularly the streams and estuaries along the coast of the U.S mainland, Canada, and Alaska. These water bodies are not just beautiful landscapes; they are home to a variety of species that play crucial roles in maintaining ecological balance. Among these species is Salmon, a keystone species whose survival is currently threatened.

Salmon plays an integral role in their environment by contributing to nutrient cycling and serving as prey for numerous predators. Their endangerment threatens not only biodiversity but also affects native tribes who depend on these fish for their livelihoods.

Unfortunately, pollution from various sources has led to a significant deterioration of these habitats. It's time we increase our efforts towards cleaning up these vital ecosystems.

According to NOAA Fisheries (2019), nearly 50% of salmon stocks in North America are at risk or already extinct due primarily to habitat loss caused by pollution. This alarming statistic underscores our urgent need for action.

By intensifying clean-up efforts along coastal streams and estuaries, we can help restore salmon populations while preserving biodiversity and supporting indigenous communities that rely on them.

Let's work together towards creating healthier habitats for salmon and other aquatic life forms by urging authorities to increase clean-up efforts along our coasts. Please sign this petition today because every signature brings us one step closer to achieving this goal.
