It breaks my heart and worries me deeply as I watch the increasing number of young lives tragically lost to knife crime, particularly in my community. Children and adults alike are becoming victims with each passing day. I believe early education and practical training on self-defence may play a crucial role in mitigating these devastating incidences, yet such initiatives remain largely absent from our educational curricula.

In Britain, knife crime rose by 6% in 2019/2020, marking the first decrease in five years, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It's high time that we implement proactive measures to curb this alarming trend. We need to equip our children with the knowledge and skills not only to protect themselves but also to help others during dire situations.

The inclusion of knife crime awareness and self-defence training in school curricula can be instrumental to achieve this goal. Understanding the risks, consequences, and relevant laws can discourage young people from indulging in knife-related offences. Similarly, teaching self-defense techniques can increase their confidence and decrease their vulnerability.

This petition pleading for such necessary changes can protect our youth, decrease knife crime rates, and potentially save countless lives. Together, we can fight this prevalent issue and strive for safer communities for ourselves and future generations.
