Installation of Speed Humps for Traffic Calming on Alston Road

Installation of Speed Humps for Traffic Calming on Alston Road
La causa
To: The Santa Barbara City Council
Subject: Request for Traffic Calming Measures on Alston Road
We, the undersigned residents of Santa Barbara, petition the Santa Barbara City Council, the Santa Barbara Public Works Department, The Santa Barbara Police Department and the Santa Barbara Fire Department to install speed humps on Alston Road to address excessive speeding, prevent reckless driving and enhance safety in our Eucalyptus Hill community.
Background:
The segment of Alston Road between Alston Place and Rametto Road, has experienced a significant increase in vehicular traffic with the continuing construction project on the 101 Freeway. This poses a serious threat to the safety of residents, pedestrians, and other motorists in this quiet residential area.
Neighbors of the Eucalyptus Hill Neighborhood have been requesting some kind of speed control on Alston Road for over 20 years.
Request:
We respectfully request:
The installation of two to three speed humps along Alston Road, starting at Alston Place and ending at Rametto Road.
The placement of appropriate signage to alert drivers to the presence of these speed humps.
Justification:
Speed humps have already been successfully implemented on several Santa Barbara streets, including Milpas, Nopal, Alamar Avenue, Alisos Street, along Oak Park, to name a few.
In addition:
• Enhance Safety: Speed humps are proven to reduce vehicle speeds, thereby decreasing the likelihood of accidents and enhancing the safety of all road users.
• Preserve Community Character: Implementing these traffic calming measures will help maintain the peaceful nature of our neighborhood.
• Accident Prevention: Reducing vehicle speeds will lower the risk of accidents, protecting residents, their pets and their property.
• Prevent Reckless Driving
Conclusion:
By signing this petition, we express our collective concern regarding the current traffic situation on Alston Road and our support for the proposed measures to improve safety and quality of life in our community. We urge the City Council to consider our request and take prompt action to address this critical issue.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Submission:
Once the petition has garnered sufficient support, it will be submitted to the Santa Barbara City Council, Santa Barbara Public Works Department, the Santa Barbara Police Department and the Santa Barbara Fire Department for consideration.
