The Issue

As you know, along with Japan, Nepal, Ecuador, Philippines, Pakistan, El Salvador, Mexico, Turkey and Indonesia, India is among the 10 most earthquake-prone countries. Tripura is on the high risk of a massive earthquake as it is situated on Seismic Zone-V and has a probability of occurrence earthquakes measuring more than 8 magnitudes on Richter Scale.
On Jan 3, 2017, a moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter Scale struck Tripura, triggering landslides in the hill state and jolting the country's Northeast. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicenter of the temblor which occurred at 1439 hrs was in Dhalai district in Tripura at a depth of 28 km.
Therefore, we would like to request the Authority and the State Government to install Earthquake Warning System in all schools and higher education institutions in Tripura, which is the need of the hour at the moment. So that the students, who are the future of our country and pride of our state will be safe from the life-threatening earthquake as Earthquake Early Warning Systems can provide a few to a few tens of seconds warning prior to damaging ground shaking.
Earthquake early warning systems are currently operational in Mexico, Taiwan, Japan and many other countries and Indian state of Uttarakhand. Kindly consider the petition and do the needful, so that this sets an example of innovative best practice to the whole country.
Secty Electronics, Germany which is currently operational in 25 countries and Terra Techcom Pvt. Ltd., Delhi can be considered for technical consultation in this regard.
