In 2019, I had a terrifying accident on our local highway. At the time, I was eight months pregnant and, by a stroke of luck, walked away unscathed. Sadly, my friend Adam Weathers was not as fortunate. He lost his life in a tragic car accident on September 12, 2025. The street on which these accidents occurred has earned a reputation as a dangerous thoroughfare due to the lack of essential safety measures.

The road lacks traffic lights, signs, speed cameras, adequate lighting, and sufficient police patrols. As a result, almost every vehicle exceeds the speed limit, creating hazardous conditions for all who traverse it. Every day, countless individuals put their lives at risk while commuting on this road. We cannot afford to witness any more accidents, injuries, or fatalities.

Implementing traffic lights and signs at critical intersections will significantly reduce the chances of accidents. The installation of speed cameras will deter reckless driving and encourage motorists to adhere to speed limits. Enhanced lighting and increased police presence will further contribute to a safer and more secure environment for all road users.

Traffic mishaps and tragedies are preventable, and it is crucial that we take action now before more lives are irreparably impacted. Installing these necessary safety measures will not only protect drivers and passengers but also pedestrians and cyclists who use this highway daily. Let's demand change for the betterment of our community and ensure the well-being of everyone traveling on this road.
