The issue

Hi, my name is Tim and I have called Neutral Bay home with my family for many years.

Over these years, and more recently, I have witnessed first hand the persistent issue of illegal parking at the corner of Barry Lane and Yeo Street in Neutral Bay, NSW. This problem has consistently posed significant safety risks for both drivers and pedestrians. It concerns me deeply because many residents, including the elderly and young, inexperienced drivers, regularly encounter difficulties and near accidents while trying to navigate this intersection.

The illegal parking in the no stopping zone severely reduces visibility for those turning left or right from Barry Lane. This lack of visibility has resulted in numerous close calls for both drivers and pedestrians. Knowing that this endangers our community pushes me to call for a solution that will prevent potential accidents and enhance the safety of our neighborhood.

I have previously written to the council requesting the installation of a triangular traffic blister in this no stopping zone. Such a measure has proven effective in other areas to deter illegal parking by physically preventing vehicles from stopping in restricted zones. It's a simple yet effective solution that can greatly improve visibility and safety.

Research and examples from other communities show that traffic blisters help maintain clear sight lines and encourage compliance with parking regulations. Implementing this could provide peace of mind to residents and reduce the hazard potential at the intersection.

The safety of our local community should be a priority. By installing a triangular traffic blister, we can ensure that Barry Lane and Yeo Street become safer for everyone—drivers and pedestrians alike. Please join me in urging the council to take action immediately. Sign the petition to support the call for a safer community today.
