Install trail cameras at the Second Valley Forest
The Issue
Illegal hunting is constantly occurring in the Second Valley Forest. Wildlife and our community is at risk.
I am deeply concerned about the safety of our community who visit this forest, the animals that inhabit this area and the biodiversity of the native corridors that run through this forest.
Several times this year I have witnessed the outcome of illegal hunting at the Second Valley Forest. I have located the remains of innocent animals in rivers, on trails and beside the main trailhead carpark. These scenes were extremely confronting and have caused irreversible damage to my mental health. I worry for the wellbeing of families visiting this location as it would be horrifying for a child to make a similar discovery to what I have.
Despite having reported each incident to Forestry SA there has been no effort made to prevent this from continually occurring or to improve public safety at this location. Signage stating that firearms are prohibited is simply not enough, this needs to be implemented and enforced.
I am urging the government agency that manages this land to make it a safer place for our community by installing trail cameras at multiple forest entrances and increasing the frequency of ranger patrols. This solution would be both simple and effective.
As a community we deserve to have an area that we feel safe in, especially if it is managed by a government agency. Please sign this petition to help encourage Forestry SA to make a change !!
Thank you
