I have lived in our neighborhood for many years and have personally experienced near-miss accidents at the Robindale and Torrey Pines intersection due to absent traffic lights. Apart from myself, there are several children in our community who regularly navigate this dangerous intersection to go to school, to the park, or simply when playing outside. Their safety, as well as the safety of all pedestrians and drivers, is jeopardized because of this issue.

Tragically, two fatalities have recently occurred due to drivers running the stop sign, highlighting the pressing need for traffic lights. Yearly, close to 700 traffic deaths in the US are a result of drivers running stop signs (Insurance Information Institute, 2019).

Our city's commitment to ensuring the safety of its residents should be paramount. Improving road safety features at crucial intersections such as this one leads to a 37 percent average decrease do roadway crashes (Federal Highway Administration, 2010).
