The Issue

By Every day, parents like myself worry about the safety of our children on the roads. My child, a new driver, attends Betsy Layne High School, and the US 23/ Bobcat Blvd intersection is part of their daily route. This intersection has proven to be incredibly dangerous, especially for drivers attempting to turn southbound from Bobcat Blvd towards Harold, KY. The lack of a traffic signal creates a precarious situation that puts all who pass through at risk.

This intersection sees a significant amount of traffic, particularly during school hours, which exacerbates the dangers faced by young and inexperienced drivers. According to traffic safety studies, intersections without proper signals are more prone to accidents. In fact, accidents at intersections make up a substantial percentage of traffic-related incidents across the nation. Implementing a traffic light here would not only regulate traffic flow but also significantly reduce the risk of collisions.

As a concerned parent, I urge the Kentucky Department of Transportation District 12 to prioritize the safety of our community. By installing a traffic light at this crucial intersection, we can prevent accidents and ensure our children can travel safely to and from school.

Betsy Layne is more than just a small town; it’s our home, and the safety of our families should be paramount. Please join me in advocating for this important change. Sign this petition and help ensure the Kentucky DOT hears our plea for safer roads in our community.
