Why this petition matters

Started by Jasmine Wighton

I am planning on writing to the council to request that speed humps or other traffic calming measures be installed on Stonepound Road, Hassocks, BN6. In order to do this I need to be able to show community support for the proposal. Please read through and sign if you agree this would benefit the residents of Stonepound Road.

The reason for this request is that motorists use our road as a cut through, when there is a back up of traffic on London Road, particularly at rush hour times caused by the Stonepound Crossroads traffic lights, in the direction from Burgess Hill heading towards Brighton. This is exacerbated when (such as presently) there are temporary traffic lights on London Road, people cut down Stonepound Road to get around them, and they drive well above the speed limit to do so.
We as residents have had pets run over and killed on our road, my son has been knocked off his bike while cycling to school by someone driving at speed around a blind corner (luckily they only clipped him with their wingmirror and he was unharmed on this occasion).
Many of the residents have pets and young children and we are very nervous to allow them out due to the speeds we are witnessing.

I feel that speed humps would slow the traffic down and deter people from using our road as a cut through/rat run.
